A study comparing mobile cardiac telemetry (MCT) with traditional Holter and Event monitors analyzed data from over 200,000 patients between 2007 and 2011. The findings revealed that MCT had a diagnostic yield of 61%, significantly higher than Holter (24%) and Event monitors (23%). Additionally, 61% of patients monitored with MCT, who were previously not on antiarrhythmic drugs, began such therapy post-monitoring, compared to 43% with Holter and 39% with Event monitors. The use of MCT also led to substantial inpatient cardiovascular cost savings, particularly for procedures like ablation, coronary artery bypass grafting, and valve surgeries. These results suggest that MCT offers superior diagnostic accuracy, improved therapeutic management, and significant cost benefits over traditional monitoring methods.
